Welcome to all of Miss Manley’s students!  Second grade is an exciting year! It means making new friends, taking part in activities, and learning new skills. Second graders will develop greater responsibility and independence while stressing acceptable academic and social behavior. Throughout the year, we will be covering many topics in all academic areas. Here are just a few things you can look forward to learning:

English: sentence structure, nouns, verbs, adjectives, capitalization, and punctuation

Reading: reading basal texts and SRA. reading lab

Spelling: weekly lists of exciting new words

Math: addition, subtraction, multiplication facts, telling time, counting money, creating and reading graphs, measuring, and many hands on activities

Science: sound, constellations, weather, simple machines, and oceans

Social Studies: people and communities, our place on earth, people at work, our nation's story, America's people, and our government — we also study Japan for Geography Night.

Handwriting: review manuscript and learn cursive
