4TH GRADE BAND STUDENTS
All 4th-grade band students will be receiving individual lessons, and will workthrough Ed Sueta Book 1. During a lesson, students will play exercises from the method book, and I will check them off once completed. Students are allowed to prepare as many exercises as they would like each week, as long as they are successfully completing them.
In addition to having lessons at school, some students choose to take private lessons (see link above) in order to get extra instruction, and move through the book faster. Private teachers are able to pass a student on their exercises (please let the private teacher know what book we are using at Wolf Branch). Regardless of whether students study privately with someone, the amount of time spent practicing is going to be the single most important thing in learning an instrument.
Each student will be given a schedule by the second week of school. Please refer to the website for the most current band information.
The band students will need to bring the following items to every lesson/rehearsal:
- a pencil
- Ed Sueta book 1
- a 3 ring binder binder (This binder should contain a few sheets of paper in it. Please be sure each binder has the students name located on the outside cover.)
Several students will complete Book 1 during the school year. Once your 4th grader has completed book one, they will enter 5th grade band. If the students are in 5th grade band, they will need to bring their instruments every Tuesday and Thursday (full band) and a new lesson time may be assigned. These additional rehearsals all take place during study hall so that no class time is missed.
Band camp is a great jump start on the school year. Band camp can put the students 1-2 months ahead of the students starting during the school year.
The best way to contact Mrs. Tessereau throughout the summer vacation is through email.
