All students must have a physical within the last calendar year to try out for athletic teams. 

Softball

Tryouts begin on August 1, or the first Monday in August. Sixth, 7th, and 8th graders are eligible to participate. Softball has one team and participates in the Belle-Fair conference and the SIJHSAA. A few 7th grade games may be scheduled. The softball team plays approximately 20-25 games beginning in early August and ending in early October with the state tournament playoffs. Game times are usually 4:15.

Baseball

Tryouts begin on August 1, or the first Monday in August. Baseball has both “A” and “B” teams. Sixth, 7th, and 8th graders are eligible to try out. The “A” team participates in the Belle-Fair conference and the SIJHSAA. The baseball “A” team plays approximately 20-25 games beginning in early August and ending in early October with the state tournament playoffs. Game times are usually 4:15

The “B” baseball team does not have a conference affiliation. They play approximately 15 games beginning in early August and ending in late September. This team is comprised of 6th and 7th graders. Game times are usually 4:15.

Soccer

Tryouts begin on August 1, or the first Monday in August. Sixth, 7th, and 8th graders are eligible to try out. The soccer team participates in the Belle-Fair conference and play approximately 15 games. “B” soccer games are played at the conclusion of the “A” games when opponents can field a team. Game times are usually 4:15

Boys Basketball

Tryouts begin in early October, after the conclusion of fall sports, but not earlier than October 1. Wolf Branch has four teams, one for each grade level at 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Seventh and 8th graders participate in the Belle-Fair conference. Games begin in mid-October and the season concludes with tournaments prior to Winter Break in mid-December. Seventh and 8th graders play 20-25 games. Game times are usually 6:00 for 7th grade and 7:15 for 8th grade.

Fifth and 6th graders

The 5th and 6th grade teams do not have any conference affiliation. They play approximately 15 games beginning in mid-October and ending in mid-December. Game times are usually 4:00 or 6:00 for 5th grade and 5:00 or 7:00 for 6th grade.

Volleyball

Tryouts begin in early October, after the conclusion of fall sports, but not earlier than October 1. They participate in the Belle-Fair conference. Matches begin in mid-October and the season concludes with tournaments prior to Winter Break in mid-December. Sixth, 7th, and 8th graders can try out for the team. “B’ games are played prior to the “A” game. “B” matches begin at 4:00 and end at 4:45. The “A” match begins at 5:00. The “A” team plays 15-20 matches and the “B’ team will play most nights when our opponents have a team.

Girls Basketball

Tryouts begin in early January, after the conclusion of Winter break. We have teams for each grade level at 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Seventh and 8th graders participate in the Belle-Fair conference. Games begin in mid-January and the season concludes with tournaments in mid-March. Seventh and 8th graders play 20-25 games. Game times are usually 6:00 for 7th grade and 7:15 for 8th grade.

Fifth and 6th graders participate in the Fairview Heights Parks & Recreation League. Tryouts begin in mid-January and the season runs until the end of March. Games are played at Grant, Illini, Pontiac, and Marie Schaefer schools. Game times are 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, or 7:00. The 5th grade will have two balanced teams and practice together as one group. The 6th grade will also have two teams that practice together but are divided to maximize playing time. Each team will play 10-15 games.

Bowling

Tryouts are in mid-January. The teams compete in the Junior High Bowling Conference at Bel-Air and St. Clair Lanes. There are four teams, junior varsity and varsity for both boys and girls. Sixth, 7th, and 8th graders can try out for the team. Each team will run in approximately 12 matches beginning at 4:00.

Track & Field

Tryouts are in mid-March at the conclusion of the winter sports seasons. Wolf Branch has one team each for boys and girls and participates in the Belle-Fair conference and the SIJHSAA. Sixth, 7th, and 8th graders can try out for the team. The track team runs approximately 10 meets beginning in late March and ending in mid-May with the state tournament meet. Meets usually begin at 4:15.
